Nice and compact for fishing trips or tailgating. Has fairly even heat distribution and gets plenty hot to cook foods nicely. I use it on my tailgate and it doesn't harm the bedliner at all. Worth the money and cabelas shipped it quick as usual.
My wife purchased this skillet for use with Girl Scout campouts about two years ago. I took it on our Seward Boy Scout Jamboree as an afterthought as I was not on the list for bringing a cooking stove. However, there were a lot of folks that were happy that it made the trip ... this thing really made a difference in time and ease of use for breakfast and supper a couple of times. By the time most folks had heated their skillets enough to get the bacon sizzling enough to flip on standard Coleman two-burners, we were close to serving a second batch of bacon!
The cooking surface held 2/3 to 3/4 lb of cold bacon ... as soon as the bacon began to draw up with a little heat, new strips went on. With the natural tilt of the picnic table, the bacon soon cooked in a "production line" fashion for continuous cooking and natural drain as each piece moved up the chain. This skillet worked so well that by first mornings' end, this thing had cooked about 5lbs of bacon for two different camp sites (20+ people) and scrambled eggs for 10 Boy Scouts.
This skillet was a "by name" request for supper's meatball subs and the next morning it was awesome for pancakes ... no stick and easy flipping for younger boys that were "tasked" to cook ... fed 15 boys and adults.
As of this writing it has about two dozen meals cooked on it over the past two years. Easy to start, quick to heat, good against the wind, easy clean and cooks well, you might want to give this a try if you like to camp/cook with Coleman!
Top likes: - Heating adjustments were easy and responsive using the heat selector ... not always the case when gas cooking - "Large" rectangular, no-stick cooking surface seems pretty sturdy ... heats quickly and evenly ... seats pretty firmly but easily pops out for clean up. - Cooking surface has a "lip" that is deep enough to pour in 18 scrambled eggs without fear of a spill ... worked great for meatball sub sauce, too! - Heating element is auto-striker ... one pop and you are cooking. - Small vents feed air to heating element but wind had zero effect on the flame. Although the standard Coleman two-burner has wind guards, most were having issues getting/keeping steady heat with the Seward, AK wind. - Velcro strap wraps up unit and secures lid with gas tube + spatula/spoons inside ... easy no-spill transport.
This is a good solid product that adds significantly to the camping experience. Breakfast is the important meal of the day and the ability to cook a hearty choice all under one lid is a great help. Easy start and clean-up, also well made.
