  • Use long-handled tongs for turning all meats and spatulas for turning burgers and fish. Do not use a fork for turning, as it will pierce the meat allowing the flavorful juices to escape.
  • The 3-2-1 method of barbecuing ribs (3 hours of smoke, 2 hours wrapped tightly in foil, and 1 hour sauced) has become very popular among competition barbecuers and home cooks alike, especially those who prefer their ribs "fall-off-the-bone" tender. Adjust the cooking time if you like your ribs with more chew.
  • Pellet grills give you the convenience of a gas grill with the flavor of a charcoal grill.
  • Make sure to cover the heat deflector with heavy duty aluminum foil. This will make for easy clean-up and prevent drippings from burning on the deflector.
  • Clean out the ash tray every 4-5 uses. This will ensure that your pellets burn efficiently and the helps to regulate the temperature at the appropriate level.
  • Don't be afraid to try new recipes or different wood flavors. It is difficult to make a bad meal on a pellet grill.
  • Make sure you are using food-grade fuel pellets and not heating pellets. Heating pellets contain chemicals that can be harmful if consumed.
  • Check your pellet levels before you start cooking. Being short on pellets is a good way to put a halt on dinner.
  • Always cover your pellet grill to protect it from the elements. Trying to clean soggy pellets out of the hopper is never a fun task.
  • For a more smoky flavor, cook your food at a lower temperature to begin with and then finish at a higher temperature. A lower temperature generates more smoke than the higher temperatures.
