Minn Kota® FORTREX™ 80 Series Bow-Mount Trolling Motors

  • Lift-Assist design with nitrogen gas-charged spring
  • Detachable Bow Guard 360 design for portability
  • Counter-Tension Stabilizer eliminates motor play
  • Redesigned foot pedal with momentary button
  • Digital Maximizer saves power and extends run time
Ambitious innovations from the bottom up provide top-of-the-line performance that thrives in the roughest conditions. Its single-hinge Mono-Arm has fewer moving parts than traditional mounts for peerless reliability that meets the demands of tournament anglers. It's marine-grade anodized aluminum arm is engineered to tighter tolerances for professional-grade strength, resulting in 75% less torsion deflection and less overall weight. The Counter-Tension Stability system eliminates motor play, reducing steering torque at high speeds in rough water, and provides rock-solid, vibration-free stowing. A nitrogen gas-charged spring halves the strength needed to stow or deploy the arm. Bow Guard 360 lets you easily lift the motor and bow guard off by removing a single cap screw for secure storage on the road or during winter. Includes the power-saving Digital Maximizer™ a streamlined footpedal with momentary control; and a nearly indestructible composite shaft. Available with Universal Sonar 2. 2-year warranty. Made in USA.

Great Troller
Date:
I purchased my Fortrex from Cabelas over a year ago and so far I have been very pleased. I ran Motorguide for pretty much all of my fishing career until I tried my friends Fortrex. I really liked the lift assist and not having to step down on the shaft to unlatch the troller to deploy it. I have never owned a motorguide that I didn't have to do this with. One thing that was and still is hard to get use to is the button being on the left side. The Fortrex is at least twice as heavy as the Motorguide tour and much bulkier but it is still very smooth after a years use. The only problem I have had and was the same problem with the Motorguide is the Nylon pull rope. I have no idea why they still use these wimpy thin ropes? It was frayed within 8 months and I replaced mine with a coated cable just like I did with all my Past trolling motors. It's not perfect but still the best troller I have ever owned.

Terrova I-Pilot, 80 lb

The mfg. messed up in their engineering. As a retired Quality Assurancde professional, I am dissappointed in Minn Kota. The shaft and head vibrate as you go down the road and across the water as there is no support mechanism. This causes the screws that attach the system to a fiberglass bass boat to eventually give due to the vibration. I have had to "jerry rig" a support device. Otherwise, the vibration can not bode well long term for the electronics and other hardware. The deployment increases the risk of going overboard. Changing headings with the foot control results in great noise and vibration that is certainly carried through the water to scare fish. Once the trac to end or start has been initiated, the system needs a lot of attention for a few minutes to get the cruise control lined out. Once you get past all that, I love the system. Once you accept the poor engineering and learn how to deal with it, it's great. I wish I had a longer warranty.

Just WoW!
Date:
Bought a new Lowe FM165 that had the MotorGuide 55# Wirless on it, had trouble pulling/stowing it with my disability. Dealer traded it back for the 80# Fortrex with US2 & installed it/wired it for 24Volt. The people that don't own this piece of art you are missing out. An easy pull of the rope & it's in the boat stowed and back out, smooth, quiet, powerfull....it's got it all.

Solid Performance Fortrex 80 US2 45" Shaft
Date:
Waited to write this review until I river tested this motor.
I purchased this motor to replace a 41lb thrust Motorguide 12/24 unit. I fish tidal rivers and my old unit would not hold in the strong current in my local rivers so I wanted to upgrade to something that had the muscle to handle it. The Fortrex is really impressive right out of the box and oozes the quality features that I was looking for in a state of the art motor.
The lift assist feature is a dream to operate and the motor is quiet and very smooth. The power of this unit is beyond what I was expecting and was a real eye opener. I purchased 2 Cabelas AGM Batteries Group 27 to go along with this new motor and I was really impressed with the performance. I fished some super strong tide pulls and never had the motor over 1/2 power all day. I could put the motor on constant and take my foot off of the foot control and it maintained a straight line without wandering one bit. I fished for 5.5 hours in winds and heavy current and when I got home and plugged into my charger I still had 75% charge remaining.
I'm totally happy with my purchase and would recommend this motor to anyone. Thanks Minn Kota and Cabelas!
