I have bought two of these is the last year they only last a few mo than the motor goes bad going to try one more if in dont last i think panther should upgrade to t4 for free the 101 is not good advertizing all my fishing buddys will not own one of these

Panther 101

I purchased this electrosteer on 7/21/10. I attempted to install a few days later but found the instructions were not too clear. I have a Yamaha 8hp and mounting the unit directly infront of the outboard did not work well as the post for the steering rod was mounted in the middle of the outboard. So relocated the gearbox to the side of motor. On my first outing the steering rod post on the gearbox kept popping out due to the fact very little threads from the post could be screwed into the gearbox plate. I ended up putting JB Weld on the post to hold it in. that seemed to fix that problem. Next I used it the following weekend and it seemed the gearbox motor was failing. For a while it steered fine then for no apparent reason it could not push the outboard as designed. Because it was a calm day and no wind I didn't need a lot of steering corrections so I limped along. Then about 4 hours into my trolling, it stopped all together. The gearbox appeared to seize up. The unit is a great concept but may need a little more time in the research dept. I will be returning it and trying the Panther T4 in hopes it works better.

This is a far better product than the Panther 101, we had trouble everytime out with it. The T4 is much nicer to install and operate. Best of luck, Good Fishing.

Great product, works just as advertised. Some custom bending is required to get it to work with your exact kicker motor. I would like to see a better electrical connector at the kicker. All in all a great item and i have ordered 2 more for my friends.
