Shakespeare® Ugly Stik® Big Water Downrigger Rods

Tough Bigwater Downrigger rods are designed with the famous Howald Process™ and blank-through-handle construction for superior strength and sensitivity. EVA foam handles and graphite-reinforced reel seats with stainless steel hoods add durability. These rods have aluminum oxide guide inserts to prevent line abrasion, an epoxy coating to protect from UV rays and extremely tough Carboloy tip tops.

I had just got my pole in the water and sat down when I saw the tip bounce. I picked the pole up the salmon hit hard and so did I. next thing I know there isn't much line on the reel. The big king is pulling so hard that i'm afraid my ugly stik is going to break, it's just a skinny thing, but no it out lasts the 40# king for an hour battle and into the net he went. Wow what a thrill ! Thank you Shakespeare

Although I wouldn't not consider these rods very sensitive, I think these are Shakespeare's best designed rod and it also seems to be the built like a tank too. I still have one of these from 20 years ago.

these are the 11th and tweleth ugly sticks i own.
they are as good as the first ten. will continue to buy them. i fish everyweek-end on lake erie an take a lot of rookies out, it's good to have rods that can withstand the accidental drops and bangs of these rookies

Good tuff rod

I have used these rods for years and have not had any problems with them. that is until I tried to back my boat into my garage, with out lowering the fishing rods. That were in my rod holders, sticking two feet above the garage door. Needless to say I had to replace all eight fishing rods. Can not blame rods for mistakes. Thank you
