Cabela's Salt Striker® Stand-Up Rods

  • 50/50 graphite-glass composite
  • Roller stripper guides/tip-top
  • Aluminum reel seat
The tradition of Salt Striker rods continue with these Stand-Up rods. Made with 50/50 graphite-glass composite, they will fight even the biggest fish. They feature roller stripper guides and tip tops to reduce line wear and tension. Between the roller guides are heavy-duty aluminum oxide boat rod guides. Other features include heavy-duty aluminum reel seats, slick butts and nylon gimbals. Most models now feature Batson Enterprises® SS316 stainless guides. The lower carbon content of this stainless steel provide better corrosion resistance then standard stainless. These guides endured the rigorous ASTM B-177 salt spray test for 50 days without sign of corrosion. Inserts are hard aluminum oxide to withstand the abuse of saltwater fishing.

Reel Seat Problems

The rod itself is decent quality, however the reel seat came loose which seems to be a common problem. A loose reel seat mixed with a 60# Yellow Fin Tuna is not a good combination. I would recomend that you look for another rod.

Bought 2 of these rods. Used once and the Reel Seat became loose & turns completely around... deemed useless... has a 1 yr. warranty. Purchase this with caution.

Disappointed - It Broke!

Just called Cabela's Customer Service to see what the Warranty is - 1 year - This rod was 2 years old when it broke below the Reel Seat on an 18 Lb. Grouper. Hadn't used it more than 10 - 12 times in 2 years. Disappointed and will be looking for a longer Warranty this time.

Great rod! Light, strong, great action, reasonable price. I've used mine for four years catching halibut and lingcod outside Resurrection Bay near Seward, Alaska. The 5'6" length is perfect too. It's short enough to fit easily in the rod rack mounted to the ceiling of my 21' Hewescraft Searunner. You won't be disappointed with the purchase of one of these rods. Thanks Cabela's for another fine product.
