Cabela's Salt Striker® Boat Casting Rods

Tough enough for tenacious fish like tarpon, dorado and tuna, yet excellent choices when your situation calls for the finesse of a spinning outfit. Each features aluminum-oxide guides and a gimbal butt with cap. Available in lightweight models for light tackle fishing and heavy models capable of subduing big fish.

Most models now feature Batson Enterprises® SS316 stainless guides. The lower carbon content of this stainless steel provides better corrosion resistance then standard stainless. These guide's endured the rigorous ASTM B-177 salt spray test for 50 days without signs of corrosion. Inserts are hard aluminum oxide to withstand the abuse of saltwater fishing.

Bought 2 of the 7 ft 20-40 LB rods one spinning and one casting. Used them only once with limted opportunity to really test them. Recently for a Trip to the Keys I bought 2 more of the same rods but 2 piece ones for ease of air travel. it can be a real pain travelling with 7 ft one piece rods. I was a little concerned about using a 2 piece rod on big fish.
Set the casting rod up with a Diawa Saltist 50 with 50LB Trilene, and the casting with a Penn 6500 with 25 LB Trilene.
Both rods performed well and handled Mutton snapper up to 25 LB easlily. Was able to bring a couple of 7-8 ft Sharks to the boat on the casting rod with some work. Reels and line performed flawless.
Will be buying a stand up rod to add to my collection.

Though this is the 3rd Salt Striker Rod that I have bought, it will probably be the last. It literally snapped in two during the first offshore trip with it. I am in the process of returning now.

Tough enough for tarpon

I used the 15-30 lb two piece rod for dealing with giant tarpon in Islamorada, FL. It did the job better than I could have ever expected on Silver Kings weighing easily over 100 lbs. each. I was able to get excellent leverage and beat the fish a lot quicker than I could have with other rods that cost double the money. I definitely recommend buying a Salt Striker rod if an angler wants a rod with lots of backbone and is not so heavy on the wallet.

I purchased two of the two piece rods for easy air travel and have used them in the Florida Keys (Marathon) fishing Tarpon with a guide for three seasons and over 40 tarpon ranging in size from #60 to #180 with not one failure from either rod. I would put them up with rods costing over $200.00. I just purchased two more for a total of four. Great Product!!
