Voltage Sensitive Trolling Bank Voltage Sensitive Charging Module - 12-Volt

The new Trolling Bank Voltage Sensitive Charging Modules give you the ability to charge your 12-volt trolling motor battery bank from your 12-volt engine charging system. Once the engine has started the unit allows the engine starting battery to be charged first. Once the engine starting battery has reached 13.7 volts the unit will engage and charge battery A in the trolling bank while the engine is running. When the engine is stopped and the residual voltage drops below 12.7 volts the unit will disengage leaving the trolling bank isolated from the starting bank. The Trolling Bank Voltage Sensitive Charging Module will increase battery life and allow you to fish longer. Every time you use your outboard, you will be charging your batteries. 10-gauge wire recommended. Eliminate the heavy on-board charger from your boat and gain speed.

We've Got Juice x 2!
Date:
I'll start by saying that I read the reviews here and mistakenly became concerned that this might be a little on difficult side. No Way!
I installed this in a 19' bowrider so I could have an extra battery in the event that I somehow drain the primary battery while using accessories (radio, bilge pump, etc.). I had a situation once where the auto-switch for my bilge pump got stuck in the on position overnight during a storm and drained the battery. We were leaving from our Lake Ozark vacation that day and the boat was in the water, about 2+ miles from where I needed to re-trailer it. The options were to pay a water towing service to come jump me, pull the battery out of my truck and haul it down and back up about 100 steep steps or buy a portable battery jumper. I picked the latter and had lunch while it charged.
In my case, the install was simple. The hardest thing for me was deciding where to put the battery, run the battery cables and what size cables I needed. The install took me about 2hrs and that was only because I had a bad back and needed to run out for a different size battery cable. Now it's happy boating... no worries about power (though I haven't quite let go of portable batter jumper, YET).

Keep your batteries charged all the time
Date:
This is a great product. A bit challenging to wire in. If you're not willing or capable, you may need to find a friend or a job shop who can do it for you. I fish once a year (twice if I can get away with it) in Voyageurs National Park for a week and have no access to electricity. This year, for the first time, my trolling battery bank was at peak charge all the time.

Complicated Setup
Date:
I did not use the product. I was not comfortable with the set up instructions. It involved rewiring the main cables to the outboard.

Charging Module
Date:
I fish areas where an electrical hookup is not available, and run my trolling motor a lot more than my outboard. I have two trolling batteries installed, and have run them both very low on some of my trips. I installed the charging module with a selector switch so i could select which trolling battery to charge when the cranking battery wasn't charging, however I have not had to switch trolling batteries since installing the unit. I would highly recommend this device to boaters who fish away from the beaten path where electricity is not available. Even after an extended trip, I have found that my batteries charge to full capacity in far less time than they used to.
