The gun and scope are awsome, however the scope mount is a cheap version of a weaver style mount but serves its purpose and I have not had any real issue with it soo far. I would recomend getting a one piece scope mount like a Talley. The combo was supposed to have been bore sighted from the factory, lets just say my five year old could have done a better job mounting the scope. The reticle was way off of being level, and the base mounting screws probably would have fallen out due to being less than finger tight, but it wasnt a big deal to readjust. I needed to adjust for proper eye relief any way.
On a better note this is a deadly combo! I shoot 250g Barnes TMZ W/ KNIGHT BT sabot for hunting and Hornady SST HS/LD for everything else. Blackhorn 209 and CCI 209M work flawlessly with these sabots. The gun is verry easy to clean and disassemble with the drop-out trigger.
Side note: 1st. Javelina hunt, one shot one kill. The Barnes realy did a number on that javelina! We will see what it does to deer later this season... All in all I love this gun and scope combo.
First firearm purchase in many years. Been awhile since I fired a smoke stick, so the changes are many. I went with this combo after reading many reviews, Field n Stream 2010 awards, and company combo setups.
This rifle is acurate. half an inch off at 100 yards due to my wiggle.
Cabelas has been very helpful. Traditions has been very helpful and responsive with email questions and extensive information on their website.
Shot about 50 rounds through in the past month. Traditions recommends the Hornady SST Smackdown. These have three petal sabots and are the easiest to load and very accurate. Tried the four petal and the skirted and they are HARD to load. Still playing with propellants, just pellets so far. Traditions guy told me Blackhorn 209 provided them the greatest accuracy at 90 grains. Still need to try Blackhorn 209.
The rig is very solid, easy to clean, light to carry, and comfortable and fun to shoot.
I had some issues with the breech plug after 4 rounds. Had to use the spinner wrench to remove. Nothing hard, just more than I could with fingers only. Since then, and a good cleaning, seems the seasoning and anti-seeze has taken care of this. The last 35 rounds the breech plug has been removed and replaced by hand only.
Fun to watch the people at the range when the big plum of smoke comes billowing out of our booth.
I have owned two other muzzle loaders in the past (Thompson Center & CVA) and this one by far is the best of the three. Since the gun was bore sighted I shot the first round at 30 yards and hit 3.5 inches low and .5 to the left. I adjusted the scope accordingly and hit just about dead center of the bulls eye. I proceeded to shoot a round at 100 yards and hit dead center and just under and inch low. I adjusted the scope one more time and hit .5 high and dead center. I then fired two more rounds and I covered all three shots with a nickle. I was shooting 100 grains of Buckhorn 209 Powder and the Barnes 250 grain Spit-Fire T-EZ bullet. If the bullet performs as advertised I should have a winning combination. I did a lot of research and read ever review I could find of which was well worth the time and effort because this is the combination I came up with after all was said and done and it worked to perfection. Thanks to Cabelas, Traditions, Leupold, Blackhorn and Barnes for great product that performed as advertised. I will be writing reviews on the bullet and powder since there is more good things to say about those two items.
Bought this rifle due too reduced eye sight that kept me from my flintlock.First time ever with inline.Sighted in easily and killed 10 pointer at 125 yards on firsthunt.
