After reading the reviews and looking at the photo of this holster, I wasn't expecting a whole lot. I was very pleasantly surprised. Heavy duty leather and stitching make this a good value. I soaked it in water as other reviewers had said and taped a pencil to the top of the barrel and wrapped the whole gun in plastic wrap then shoved it down into the bottom of the holster. I used rubber bands to conform the flap and hold it tight to the holster. After drying a day, I oiled the area of the flap that bends and ended up with a custom fit heavy duty holster. On a side note, I also purchased the spare cylinder pouch and the Civil War belt offered here at Cabela's. The only way I could get the belt into the holster was while it was wet. I left it in there while the holster dried. I had to do the same with the cylinder pouch. All three items, the holster, belt and cylinder pouch are very nice. They do require a small amount of work to get the custom fit you're looking for, but well worth the work. Happy!

Goes great with the 1858 Army black powder .44. Our BSA group is considering starting a Civil War reenactment group and this will fit right in with the theme.

Order placed by phone from Australia. I'm an ex Marine living in north queensland. Best quality gear for the money at least over here. Must note that after application of oil to soften the holster up the plug at the bottom just let go and came out,only glued in,quick job with leather repair waxed cotton thread and problem des not exist. Do not let my small problem cause you any concern. Best buy on the market

nice product, my only complaint is that the leather is very very hard. one of the toughest leather products i've ever seen. i have to buy leather softner now.
