A practical way to display and load a cap-and-ball revolver. Wood base with felt-lined wood back-strap support. Positions cylinder to rotate and face upward for easy loading. Fits 1851 Navy, 1860 Army and 1858 Army revolvers.
I just recieved my second loading/display stand and replaced the hinge with a beefier brass one before I even put a gun in it. It will function OK as a display stand but to load your pistol in it, it won't take the abuse without stretching and bending the hinge! Since hinges are a couple dollars I would recomend this product if you don't want to go thru the engineering and design of one yourself.
The first two reviewers hit the nail on the head. It is a functional piece of equipment but it isn't made of the highest quality materials.
I, too, would prefer to have had it made from some hardwood. But, what really caught my eye was the hinge.
Even the drawing on the packaging shows a hinge with several screws on each side. This hinge has two screws on each side and looks to be made of thin aluminum with a cheap wire pin.
A nice brass hinge about 2.5 inches long instead of the 1.5 inch aluminum hinge would have been a nicer touch. It would also be a better design if the hinge or swing-arm could be locked in position.
