Precission on outside, not inside where it counts!
Date:September 4, 2010
Purchased recently. Inspection upon arrival was great. Commented to my brother as to how precise the mould fits together on closing. My brother who actually does the casting was impressed. However, after casting some round balls for my Howdah he informed me that the balls are not spherical. There is an obvious 'shift' of the two halves of the ball. To have a slight flash seam where the two halves join upon casting is one thing, but this goes beyond that. The two halves of the cast round balls do not line up well even though from the outside the mould closes with a precission that you can hardly perceive when closed (reminds me of those cheap 'superballs' you would get out of the gumball type vending machines as a kid). My brother has been using Lee moulds for his casting needs and loves the results. So he knows what to expect. He also said the handles are quite short on the Pedersoli mould and one handle came loose shortly after using the mould for casting. I have ordered many items from Cabelas in the past and this is the first item I can say is a disappointment. I orded the Pedersoli mould figuring it would give the best result for their Howdah. I have now ordered a Lee .600 round ball mould which is about half the cost of the Pedersoli.
