Amazing
Date:
Side by side view of these with Zeiss and Sawarski were pretty even, but the compact size and sturdy feel of the Leica put them over the top. These are the best of their class. Which would mean the best on the planet.

Great Glass
Date:
I bought these Leica Ultravid HD's (7x42) and a pair of Swarovski SLC New HD binocs (8x42) to review side by side with each other with the intention of sending one back. Very tough choice. Bottom line is that they are both top notch binocs and you can't go wrong with either one. Excellent clarity, very precise, tough, good focus nobs, etc. I settled on the Leica for a couple reasons. They were slightly smaller and more compact (seemed to weigh less too), and they seemed to be ever so slightly better built. The Sworos were very tough as well so it is prob a non issue. The Swaros had a bigger sweet spot and better case/accessories but the Leica's had better pup exit diamter (due to lower power) and therefore seemed brighter. The Leicas are amazingly bright and seem to do their best work at the fringes of the day. I can see things with these that my naked eye cannot even come close to seeing when it is essentially dark. This is critical for me, and most hunters. Heck, with even a hint of moonlight, I don't even miss the sun! Both do require very precise eye alignment through the barrels to get the best picture...prev versions of the SLC Swaros were much easier to use in this regard. Bottom line.....these are both fantastic glasses. I could have flipped a coin and not missed either way. The Leicas are equal to or better than all other top notch binocs of the current day. You will not be disappointed. Warranty is great too....3 year no fault replacement followed by lifetime.

Superb optics
Date:
I have used my Leica Ultravid HD's for two hunting seasons now and they are excellent binocs. These replaced a pair of Leica 7x35's I had received as a tip about 25 years ago. Those optics spoiled me for sure and I hope these last as long. The low light performance and clarity of these optics are amazing. You don't just see a yellow "something" a mile away, you see an elk and can almost make out horns if he's big enough! I have two complaints. One is the price, these things have gone up tremendously in the last 5 years and I suspect they will be out of the reach of most of us regular folks soon(if not already). The second is that both the protective eye cups on the binocs broke off the first season I had them. One side I snagged on something, so that might be acceptable, but the other just fell off while I was using them. At $2500 I expect every aspect of the product to be top notch! One other minor complaint is the size and weight, mine are 10x42's and while my old eyes appreciate the 10x, these binocs are about twice the size and probably a third heavier than my old optics and for backcountry hunting they are heavy! Guess I could have bought the 8x32's, but I wanted the higher light gathering lens so that's more my bad than the binocs.

Leica Ultravid HD
Date:
I have tried all of the premium European binoculars and in my humble opinion, Leica Ultravid HD are the best. Their contrast and brightness are amazing! I was setting on my deck, just minutes before dark, looking through the Ultravid HDs at the countryside and picked up a herd of deer about 2 miles away. I could count all of the deer and tell which ones were feeding and which ones had their head up. These binoculars (10X42) are very light, compact and tough. I am a serious hunter and to me, these binoculars are well worth the price.
