  • Smaller, lighter and brighter
  • High-Lux System brings optical performance to new heights
  • Full magnesium housing
  • Industry-leading waterproof submersion rating of 16.5 ft.
  • Lifetime unlimited warranty
Lighter, smaller and brighter than previous Leica offerings, the Ultravid represents an entirely new era in high-performance European binoculars. The Ultravid's full magnesium housing substantially reduces weight and adds considerable ruggedness, while the center axis pin is 100% composed of ultra-durable titanium. The Ultravid also boasts an all-metal, self-lubricating focusing system free of unnecessary lubricants. The unique, three-lens objective system allows the binocular to correct more image errors than the leading competitor's binoculars. The new High-Lux System is a 42-layer prism coating that produces nearly 100% light transmission per glass-to-air surface, thus giving the user the absolute finest image contrast and most natural color resolution across the entire spectrum. Each eyecup is removable for easy cleaning and upkeep. The Ultravid also features an industry-leading waterproof submersion rating of 16.5 ft and offers Leica's Passport Protection Plan. The Passport Protection Plan is the only written, unlimited lifetime warranty in the high performance segment of the optics industry. Includes a neoprene case, cushioned neck strap, objective lens caps, and a one-piece rainguard that covers and protects the two ocular lenses. The Leica Ultravid – there is truly no other binocular like it on Earth.

Leica Ultravid Compact 10x25
Date:
These are impressive binoculars considering how small and light they are. Not quite as bright as my pair of monarch 10x42's at dusk, but still much better than expected. I'm not worried about missing anything during hunting hours (30 min before sunrise and after sunset). They are definitely much sharper than my 10x42's, especially toward the edges. After a little practice they get much easier to use. Now for a word of caution: the description for these is inaccurate. The housing is aluminum, not magnesium. The eye cups are not removable. There is no "unlimited" lifetime warranty as stated; it is three year unlimited, then covered by a "limited" lifetime warranty. The neck strap is not cushioned. There are no objective lens caps. There is no one piece rain guard, instead there are two individual caps to protect the ocular lenses. And the total weight is ~9.4oz. Still amazing binoculars, just be aware of the true specs while making your decision.

Excellent Choice
Date:
I've owned the Leica 10x25 binoculars for 3 fall hunting seasons and the brightness near dusk is the best for the size, in my opinion. I also own the equivalent Swarovski 10x25 binouclars and have been using them for 2 fall hunting seasons. Both are excellent and I, and my sons, have used them in snow and rain and in bright light and at dawn and dusk in Colorado and Wyoming. Each has its advantages.
I'm an eyeglass wearer and when glassing for long periods I like to remove my glasses for comfort. The pull-out eye cups on the Leicas are easier to use as the twist-out type on the Swarovski come loose and I find myself trying to tighten them several times, especially when it is cold, before they twist out property. However, the range of focus is much, much greater on the Swarovski making it better for use when my glasses are off. Without glasses, the Leicas seem to be right on the edge of focus if I look at something far away. The Leicas have lense caps, which is nice in bad weather, while the Swarovski do not, so I find I have to wipe these off when it's snowing and am peering through the forest.
The neckstrap is a minor issue for each. The Leica binocular strap has a tendancy to slip apart, so if you get these, do yourself a favor and stitch some black thread through the strap ends to prevent either from coming all the way out, risking the binoculars falling to the ground. The Swarovski strap is permanently fixed, but it is really narrow, so it is not as comfortable around your neck.
Both are small, but the Swarovski are smaller.
The Leicas are rubber coated and quieter if they bump up against your rifle scope, while the Swarovski are not.
I love both of these binoucluars. The son who wears glasses likes the Swarovski, while the one who wears contacts uses the Leicas. Hiking/hunting through the mountains in Colorado can be tiring, so light-weight binoculars are a real plus and I never choose to leave them in camp because I got tired of carrying them around my neck like my old binoculars. To paraphrase another reviewer, the best binoculars are the ones you're willing to carry with you.
Thre price seems high, but I don't think I'll ever need to buy another pair of binoculars.

Light, small, outstanding optical quality.
Date:
These binoculars are better than any 8x30 binoculars I ever had but weigh less than 250 g and fit in a shirt pocket. Brightness and clarity are just amazing. When my wife and I go birding and I ask her whether she wants to carry the 10x42 "S" brand (also outstanding binoculars) or the compact Leica Ultravid she now prefers the lightweight Ultravid. The only thing I'm missing are lens caps. (It comes with useful rain covers for the eyepieces, but there don't seem to exist lens caps.)

Leice Ultravid 8*20
Date:
Acquired binocular to replace damaged Nikon 10*25. Complements existing Leica 7*42 and Swarovski 10*42. Used as a portable when a small lightweight binocular is more convenient. Did not expect it to outperform larger binos and it does not, but it is brighter than the Nikon. It lives up to expectations. Did find it a bit of getting used to in the beginning.
