Great Versatility

While I am relatively new to the elk calling world I can say I like the versatility of these calls. I have only been able to practice with these so far, as I have not gone on this year's hunt yet. I like the range of sounds you can produce with this set. I do have more difficulty with the open reed model, but I sometimes struggle with those anyway....... Practice, practice, practice and find success......!!!

I'm a newbie to elk calls so take this with a grain of salt. Bought these on the advice of a friend before the hunt. Watched the video once and practiced in the car on the way there. My friend was not impressed and was hesitant to let me call at all (for best results, you probably want to practice extensively while watching the video if you're new). Later, while hunting, I thought his calls with this same item sounded more like a wounded rabbit than a sexy cow. Neither of us got any appreciable response though one bull would answer with a bugle any time I used the biggest of the three calls (right after the wounded rabbit-sounding call from my friend).
The two smaller calls didn't seem to work well when the reed was wet so the idea of a bowhunter holding the tiny one in the corner of the mouth ready to go at any time didn't work out for me (I apparently drool too much). I felt like I got the hang of the calls mid-hunt; could have easily gone 4 stars.
In contrast, my friend also had a Hoochie Mama. The first time he used it he was not in sight and I started hunting him thinking it was a cow. No real results from it either though...ended up killing a bull after a silent stalk.
Don't forget to buy a bugle call. You'll want that possibly more than the cow calls.

Ordered this brand of calls due to reviews indicating ease of use. The two enclosed reed calls (ACE-1 & ACE-2) are relatively easy to use, but with the open reed call (ACE-3) it is much more difficult to get anything sounding like a cow elk. I admit I'm a novice and a slow learner when it comes to calls, so the ease of use is very important for me. The DVD explains the use of the calls, but could be more helpful regarding specific calls for specific calling circumstances. It refers one to buy additional DVD's for that information.
Looking forward to trying these on my first elk hunt this fall.
