all ready used it on the resident herd not far from home . Had cows and calves and the big boy come within 30 yards. i do not hunt them because it would be too easy
This call is very versatile. You can get LOUD locating calls out of it, but you can also get the quietest, softest noises out of it. If I could only take one call with me, this would be it. Learning it is somewhat easy, but perfecting the sounds takes a lot of practice. Try a soft, long cow call for call shy bulls. works more often than not.
I bought one of these calls before my Wyoming Archery Elk hunt in Sept of 2011. I found it easy to get a great sound from and very versatile with the option to remove the Tone Converter for getting some real loud sound out of it if needed.
I have used this call for a few years and have found it to be effective on bulls but not always. The sounds can be varied a considerable amount from low to high. I have brought bulls in quickly but after the season gets going I think some bulls totally ignore it. I guess it just depends on the situation and how you use it. Sometimes I get my lips on it wrong and let out some really non elk strange sounds. Once brought in a nice 5x5 to within 70 yds with one short call but did not shoot due to the distance, figuring that I could get a closer shot later. Once he turned and walked away, I used the call again, then again, then again and he just walked away like I was a tweety bird. Overall, once you practice with it, hopefully you can make a decent call under pressure. It is a good addition to my calls.
