I originally thought this hunting parka was too expensive but eventually bought one. It is the best parka I have ever owned. it is water proof and sheds water very well. I took in duck uhunting in January to the NC coast where it rained buckets. I stayed dry the entire time with no leakages. it is wind proof due to having hunted for a week in upper Wisconsin in 20 degree weather with the wind blowing 30 mph each day and the parka kept me cozy. I found the coat to be a little heavy but once on this is not noticeable. Hood covered my face and hat so no rain or snow got to my face. Great parka and I bought another in a different pattern so i would hve a back -up. I also bought the bibs so i am set for the forseeable future.
I bought this last year. its warm and dry and seems to be will made. My only gripe is that the zipper pulls are not designed well. I had 2 come off in the field, leaving me with no way to open the pocket except with pliers, which damaged the zipper.
I am 6'3" 210 lbs. I have been deer hunting for 21 years - mainly bow hunting. I hunt from the beginning of the season until the end of the season. I live and hunt in Northern MN, so we know what cold and snow is all about. I bought both the parka and bibs in 2XL Tall and couldn't be happier with the sizing. Fits very, very well.
This gear is TOP OF THE LINE. I waited until they were on sale but either way, they are WELL worth the money if you do a lot of cold weather hunting. I hunt the majority of the time on stand, so I can't comment much about walking. I would suspect if you wore the bibs/pants together and did a lot of walking that you would get hot. I would recommend little layering if you plan to do a lot of walking.
I've hunted in wind (20-30mph) and cold (down to below zero wind chills) and this gear does the job with VERY little layers - which I like - (usually a cold gear long sleeve underarmor shirt and a long sleeve polar weight long underwear on top - cold gear underarmor pants and another light type pants on bottom).
It is not silent but as quiet as anything else that is windproof/waterproof. It does make noise but anything that is windproof/waterproof is gong to make SOME noise. I'll take a little noise if it means I stay dry and the wind does not rob my heat. Seems a little quieter than dry-plus.
Everything about this gear is quality. Too many features to list. Lots of pockets. Great hood. Comfortable to shoot in. Able to cinch around waist - nice feature. I am not sold on the scent-lok - seems deer have smelled me downwind since using it (along with face mask/head gear). I bought the Vertigo pattern - AWESOME! My only complaint about the bibs is that there could be another leg pocket. Only one leg pocket and two hand pockets.
I would HIGHLY recommend this gear if you do a lot of cold weather hunting. I can't imagine anyone not giving this gear 4-5 stars! I was trying to save money in the past but now I regret not purchasing good, quality gear sooner. I wasted a lot of good hunts in the past because I was cold and miserable. Now, I'm cvery satisfied.
I've had mine and matching bibs for years and have never been disappointed when i needed them. I wear 2xl coat and xl bibs and they are true to fit and durable. i only need them a couple of times each deer season due to where i typically hunt and never expect to wear them out.
