Caldwell® Fire Control Full Length Rest

  • Delivers accuracy, adjustability, and consistency
  • Machined gears for smooth precision
  • Make adjustments easily using a control and handle
  • Fingertip control of your sight picture
  • Won't mar rifle finish
Enjoy better accuracy, precision adjustability, and consistent repeatability for sighting in, varmint hunting and competition shooting. Forget about tugging on your rifle, shifting sandbags at the last second and constant fiddling with adjustable legs only to have your crosshairs wander just a bit. This stylish and functional full-length rest solves all of these problems. The innovative Fire Control System consists of a series of plates manipulated by a control and handle. With your rifle in the rest, use the handle to fine tune last-second movements up, down, right or left. Machined gears and racks offer smooth, precise adjustments. Varmint hunters will find this system indispensable because it helps keep the crosshairs on varmints that move just a bit right before the shot. Control of your crosshair position and sight picture is literally at your fingertips. The unique front cradle accepts two included bags – one for regular rifles and one for varmint-type/competition stocks with wide forends. The rear stock is cradled in a soft nonmarring pad that provides firm support. Firearm not included. Made in USA.

Fire Control Full Length Rest

Used it to sight in one new rifle and one I already had used previsouly. It speeds up the entire process considerably. I would estimate it was at least twice as fast as with my old rest.
Overall, the performance was as promised. It was very steady and the precision/speed with which one can move the point of impact in all directions is very impressive.
The build quality was pretty good, and putting it together was simple and fast. The screw feet made it very secure on the wood shooting table at the range. On the shot the rest barely moved and getting it back on target was super easy.
As mentioned in other reviews, the two main gross movement controls are plastic. They seem to work fine, but I'll have to watch the durability. Also, the forward stop bolt that came with the rest was too big for the hole through which it was supposed to be placed. It was simple to ream the hole a little larger, but it is these small issues that can really negatively impact the perception of quality.

Released too early
Date:
My expectations were great so I used this gift from my son the day after Christmas. Unfortunately, it fell far short. The control mechanism is a precision piece and I loved the action but the control knob was missing from the kit and the control arm rotated on its mating axis despite my efforts to tighten the thumb screw. The overall length is too long for a shooting bench I bought from Cabelas earlier this year--the front feet and the back foot hung over the edge so the rest moved every shot. These were minor problems.
I could not find a comfortable position that would 1) absorb shock; 2) allow me to see the full field of view through the scope; and 3) sit on my rear. I looked like a contortionist and my shoulder is now black and blue! Why in the heck didn't Caldwell put a recoil stop in this rest like the Lead Sled?
Battenfeld has a great concept here but they didn't do their homework before releasing the Fire Control for sale.
