Stren is loaded with quality enhancing properties: high knot
abrasion and shock strength; proper limpness for easy casting and handling;
controlled stretch for solid hooksets and high tensile strength that provides
small diameter per pound test. Clear color, 330 yards. Lb. test available: 6, 8, 10, 12, 14, 17, 20.
I bought one of these 330 yard spools of 12lb Stren when it was on sale, I needed some new line and I thought why not. Not much memory at all, it had more memory than Trilene XL but less than Berkley Big Game. It spooled up nicely on two of my spincasts and one of my dads spincasts. No complaints at all.
It casts nicely as well. It's limp but not TOO limp. Even though it's very castable it keeps some of it's strong properties as well. This makes Stren a textbook all-purpose line. For me, though, it works pretty good for carp as well.
I bought it in the clear color but next time I'm going to get clear/blue florescent. I found out about the awesome visibility of clear/blue florescent line long after I purchased this clear. Even though the clear works good the clear/blue is much more visible making it easier to detect bites from shy carp.
12lb is good but because of lots of snags close by on some areas I fish, I think next time I'm going to upgrade to 14lb. However, the 12lb has caught me three carp that were 20" to 22" range, along with tons of small 8" to 13" channel cats and even a few bluegills. The biggest fish, a 22" carp, was only half the weight of what the line was rated for.
I am going to rate this line a 4 only because I much prefer the clear/blue florescent line. If you are worried about fish being spooked by the clear/blue (although you shouldn't be) then you should go with the clear.
This is overall a decent fishing line. I used it for a season and it held up to some abuse. I liked Trilene XL and Spider Wire Super Mono EZ better. I thought they held up to the elements better.
