Engineered to deliver optimum waterfowl-folding performance with Federal's Black Cloud™ steel shot. Its titanium coating lets the Flite Control wad do its job. The long-range model produces dense patterns over the decoys with loads no larger than a BBB and up to 1,550 fps. The mid-range model even throws, perfect patterns with various loads of all velocities.

Great long range choke!

My typical thought on choke tubes is that a choke is a choke is a choke at a set constriction. To my surprise, the Long Range (and the Mid Range as well) BC Carlson choke tube noticeably improved my patterns and %'s in the 30" circle at 40+ yards.
At 50 yards, I saw my % in the 30" while patterning increase over 10% (almost 15%). Almost all of my hunting is <40 yards so I will mostly stick to the Mid Range but it is nice knowing I have this in my bag to reach out and knock the big ducks and geese down at long range.
Oh, one note I feel I must disclose. After patterning my Beretta 391 shotgun extensively, I found Black Cloud to pattern the best overall. So I have only shot Black Cloud #2 and #3's out of this choke. I cannot talk to what it would do with Hevi type shots and other steel loads.

I shoot a winchester SX2. I pattern tested my imp cyl and mod chokes that came with the SX2 at 40 yds and they both had more bb's in a 25'' dia than the carlson's. I shot the black cloud snow goose loads 3'' bb

Great Choke tube

Bought a new Benelli Vinci and the tightest stock choke you can use with Steel shot is Modified. I was losing cripples, and busting feathers off ducks left and right.
Switched to the long range tube and since then the birds I hit fold up immediately. No fluttering. No crippling. They're usually dead before they hit the water.
The only downside is it says you can't use it for rounds that shoot over 1550 fps so if you use Black Cloud Snow Goose or other high velocity rounds you will need to switch.

This review is based soley on the fact that I bought the mid range black cloud tube for my brand new Beretta A400 Extreme Unico, and it doesn't even fit the muzzle of my barrel. I purchased on the strong recommendation of a friend, and when I read all of the reviews on this site I figured I couldn't go wrong. I very much so understand that it states on the package "fits most beretta models." However this is Beretta's flagship waterfowl gun this year and, for it not to fit... I will return it and find out if there is another good option out there, which I am sure that there is, and see if I can improve the patterns in my gun.
