Totally useless toy

Unless you are just buying it as a toy with which to play, it is useless. As noted elsehwere, it accuracy is usually no more than +/- 150 feet, and never more than +/- 300 at 1,000 feet above sea. So, you are using a topo map marked in 20 ft intervals and you are actually at 1000 ft, but the unit might say you are at 700 or at 1300 ft-a 600 ft range. Useless toy at best

Great Product Once You Figure It Out

Five Stars had the instructions explained how to set it and forget it. Since this thing measures altitude according to barometric pressure and that pressure is always changing, trick is to set it when the barometer is at average pressure of 29.92 and at a known altitude (like a local airport). Once I got that figured out, I found this thing good for dead-on accurate to usually no more than +/- 150 feet, and never more than +/- 300 at 1,000 feet above sea level where I live. While visiting the Colorado mountains at 6,000-12,000 feet, it seemed to maintain the same +/- foot variance.

Altimeter works

I mounted it on my windshield and the device seemed quite accurate. It is certainly sensitive to changes in altitude--and seems accurate within its tolerances. It's fun to use and adds to the excitement of travel. Now, if I can figure out how to adjust it I'd be even happier.
