Ram Spotlight does not keep up with the mount
Date:
Excellent mount; balance is mediocre. I rate this two stars on the "hate/dislike/like/like a lot/love" scale.
I purchased two of these at one time and have used each several times, mostly in clear air conditions. I bought this light because it's *not* so bright that it would drain an ATV battery, like some I have owned. It seems rugged and has not failed to operate. I have dropped my lights at least once.
The beam is yellow on my truck, boat and ATV. Don't expect a white-hot beam, which in my experience is much better.
ATV: The first spot was meant for my ATV (quad). The mount is excellent and does everything I'd hope for. The light is barely adequate for that purpose if there is a hint of fog, mist, rain or snow. You know, just when you really want a light. There is a lot of "flare" from the light - meaning it is not a tight beam. So this "flare" lights up the front rack and fenders of my quad (and any precip!) and kills one's night vision. Like having car high-beams on in similar conditions. I could move the light, but that's not the intent(!). For my ATV, I've started using an LED 3 C-cell flashlight to supplement the spot.
BOAT: The second spot is used occasionally on the front of my boat for moving about at the dock and getting onto a boat lift. I mounted it at the gunwale far forward and hang the light low in the mount to avoid blinding myself. The flare is not so much of an issue on the boat as I don't use it for navigation on the water. That's because the light is not bright enough, so don't buy it for that. But for me, again, it's a good thing as long as I'm at low speed. I have a rechargeable spot with a powerful, tight beam that I flash on as needed, like when I'm looking for channel markers or want to get the attention of a boater far away. (Never blind someone who is navigating!)
The coiled cord works well for my needs. However, I find the switch to be awkward, but manageable. When pushing on the switch, the force is not in line with the strength of the mount. It's a handy(?) indication that you need to tighten the mount when the light moves.
The 'handle' fits no person who has tried it, but it too is manageable. When holding the light, I pull the mount arm off of the base ball and it makes a great handle like many other spots. The ball that remains is not obtrusive. I have not tried to mount on a bar.
Lastly, I have found the plug fits very well and stays put in *some* sockets, but rattles/pulls loose easily in others. I have closely examined the sockets and cannot explain why. I find no pattern.
I really like RAM mounts and have used many. To me, this light is a well-made, poorly designed product. It would be a better value at 4 or 5 'stars'.

Not very bright
Date:
This is a well made light and the mounting system is great but it is not very bright. I bought a primos light and used the RAM mout on it. Works great.

RAM SPOTLIGHT
Date:
GOOD SPOTLIGHT, FUNCTIONS WELL AND IS WEATHER PROOF. IT MAY NOT BE AS BRIGHT AS OTHERS BUT IT SEEMS TO HAVE ENOUGH LIGHT FOR WHAT YOU NEED, ANY MORE LIGHT WOULD ATTRACT TOO MANY BUGS. THE ONLY DOWNFALLS THE LIGHT HAS IT IS THAT ITS A BIT OVER PRICED AND I DONT HOW THE BULB GETS CHANGED WHEN IT BURNS OUT. I OWN 2 FOR THE BOAT AND PLAN TO BUY ANOTHER FOR THE ATV DURING HUNTING SEASON.
