Preparing carbon arrows for inserts requires specialized equipment, and the Carbon-Prep Tool is the ultimate. Long-lasting teeth etch the inside of the arrow for maximum insert adhesion, unlike other tools that are simply modified bore brushes.
If you've built a few of your own carbon arrows, you know that it is imperative that you get a good adhesive bond between the shaft and the insert. Any way that you can rough up the inside of the first inch+ of shaft in order to get a better "grip" between glue and insert is a good thing (remember to clean after you do this to remove the fine carbon dust before you glue).
That said, this tool does a fine job of that. Is it the best possible tool for this? Maybe. Maybe not. But it didn't cost a fortune and I didn't have anything better in my kit. So I recommend it, but if you think you already have something that works great for you ... this likely won't be a major improvement.
I ordered this tool because I had never used carbon arrows before and in reading about arrows without inserts installed was led to believe a tool was needed. Upon receipt of my arrows and inserts I learned I could have used a brush from my rifle cleaning kit just as efectively. However , used the tool , since I had it , and it does rough the inside of the shaft . But , so does a .270 brush.
a tool like this does not see alot of use so for me it is important to not overspend when i purchase tools that see limited action....does what it is supposed to
