my father and i went on a Hippopotamus african hunting safari in Mozambique. which was in december this year. we were planning this for years. i was saving my money for awhile to go there. after the hassle of flying and getting settled our lodge. the next morning we started to hunt. in 3 days our guide and tracker found the right hippo to shoot. my dad let me take the shot. we were in a buggy marshy plain. the hippo was half out of the water. nervous and excited i was, i took the shot and the Hippo Dropped dead!!!. we were expecting to take a second shot. Anways the minimum caliber you can use for big game is a 375H&H. for the safe side i used the 505 caliber with had 600grain and a fmj. that ammo had massive firepower and penetration!! good thing it wasn't wounded because it would of came after me or it would of been a big threat. after i got pictures with all of the guides. they were the best you can have them. so i tipped them well. in a few years i want to go back and for a cape buffalo but it is a long request.
I recently used the 350 grain Norma ammo in my .375 H&H on a safari in Botswana. This ammo shot tight groups from my rifle. I sighted in dead on at 100 yards and took Cape buffalo, kudu and warthog all with this same ammo. Bullet penetration was excellent and all animals were taken cleanly at ranges from 20 to 100 yards.
So far I have only used it for sighting in and practice, but it is consistent. Puts "holes in holes" at 100 yards. I am absolutely using it in Africa in 5 weeks.
