A good night's sleep
Date:
I purchased a Pak Mat within the last month. I have used it on one float trip thus far, on the Togiak River in SW AK.
My experiences with this air mat:
It inflates quite easily and very quickly with the pump/housing that comes with it.
It also deflates quickly and repacks into the tube easily and without issue.
On other sites, the two biggest negatives I've read involve its odor out of the package and that it's a loud air mat. Mine had no odor at all. My wife has a very sensitive nose and she could detect nothing unpleasant or obvious. Regarding noise, I could detect nothing when I had it aired up on my living room floor. I will say that on the first night of my float trip (the coldest during my float trip; around 40 degrees or a bit colder) I got up in the middle of the night to relieve myself and it sounded a bit (not a lot) louder than other mats I have used. I wonder(conjecture) if the colder temperature was why. On that first night, I shared a small cabin with several other guys and none of them heard me get up, so it wasn't waking anyone up. Also, they said they didn't hear anything abnormally loud from it during the turning in stage each evening. I guess I would say that perhaps it's slightly louder, under some circumstances, than other air mat types, but certainly nothing to worry about, IMO.
I'm on the husky side for my height (5'9" and about 240) and I had no issue with comfort or the size of the mat... it worked just fine for me. Also, I like the ease with which I can adjust how much air is in it. Inflated to capacity, it's a very firm mat. I prefer something a bit squishier. By having the valve by my head, I'd lay down each night and let out air until the mat felt just right. Even at less than full inflation, I never came close to feeling gravel of the river bar underneath me.
I do not have prior experience with other high end mats, but this one seems quite nice. I'll be interested to see how durable it is over the long haul, but my first trip out with it was certainly a five star experience.

Fantastic concept, poor implementation
Date:
Out of the "box", I loved this item and would give it 5 stars. The pump works great and it deflates and repacks relatively painlessly. When inflated, its very comfortable. However, my mattress just won't stay inflated for me. I don't mean I had to pump it up once a day or something, I mean, I went cold weather camping and was woken up two or three times a night because it would deflate enough for my body to hit the ground and the cold floor to wake me. I called Aerobed and they said to soak the silicon ring to make the seal better. That did not help the problem. I am going to try to return it for another one and see if I just got a defective product.
TL:DR - Would have been a great product if it worked for me.

Good Bed
Date:
This is probably the best portable air mattress I've ever used. It's thick enough to keep you off the ground, and its horizontal air compartments support the various areas of the body. It's easy to carry, inflate, deflate and store. However, it would be nice if it were wider, it doesn't come with a patch kit (leaks are inevitable), and, when fresh out of the packaging, it smells bad, so allow plenty of time for it to air out. Recommended.
