First got the gun and tried multiple different ammo types. was unhappy with the groupings until i shot crossman hunting pellets. they are essentially a raptor round, but in lead. now i will hold a quarter at 30+ yards. can walk back in the yard out to 150 yards, aim high, and hit a pie plate every time. great gun for the price, and when you get used to it, can kill varmints with it too. ive done in 3 rabbits and 2 squirrels, and more birds than i can count. only complaint is it can be sensitive. with my rifle, i have to hold it lightly with my trigger hand. once i got the hold down, birds learn to fly away before i'm 60 yards away. GREAT GUN!!!
I bought the airhawk wanting an air rifle that could eliminate pests and provide cheap practice for deer season. I am not confident that this rifle will do either. After stripping the gun down and applying locktite to all screws ( they all loosened after a few shots) and re-applying the scope, again with locktite, then learning the "artillery hold", I can now get 1 inch groups at 30-40 yrds. But, the technique is foreign to me, and therefore is destructive to my deer season accuracy and difficult to achieve in field condition with varmints. I bought a Beeman grizzly x2 somewhere in the middle of this learning process, installed the .22 barrel and have been more satisfied: this gun has substantial recoil and benefits from the rock -solid hold I prefer, but suffers from an atrocious trigger. If what you want is cheap practice for rifle season (big game), get something other than a spring piston air rifle. If you want user-friendly varmint control, the beeman and others are probably good. If you want a rifle that is so finicky that it will refine your technique when you use a better rifle, the ruger airhawk is just for you.
i bought this air rifle a few months ago and at first it was fine but after about a month it got hard to keep zerod in and one day i pulled it out to shoot it and when i wen to cock the break barrel the stock snaped in half at the pistol grip.
I bought this gun and found it was impossible to keep zeroed in. I thought being a Ruger is would be a quality product; I was wrong. I sent it back and purchased a Benjamin Trail .22. Believe me you\u2019ll be much happier if ya spend a little extra. The Benjamin is a far superior product and an amazing gun to shoot.
