My buddy bought the Gamo Big Cat and he loves it and after shooting it for weeks, i soon found out why. lts a truley awesome gun. So i wanted something similar so l bought the Gamo Shadow Sport. l have ZERO complaints. HOWEVER, i did a lot of research on these Gamo air rifles and i found that the biggest problem people were writing about were "scope problems". lf you've read many reviews, you'll see what l mean. So, the scope that comes with the Shadow Sport never got mounted on my gun. l bought a Center Point 4X-16X 42 with infared and infagreen crosshairs. This gun armed with this scope is truely awesome! The Shadow Sport scope was mounted on my buddy's Big Cat and at 35 yards, he cuts holes. l also use Crosman Hollow Points because they are very accurate up to 45 yards. The Shadow Sport is awesome! Trigger pull is a little hard, but seriously, it doesnt bother me. l have disposed of SEVERAL pests around the house and barn with this gun. l can only hope if you choose to purchase this air rifle, your experiance is like mine. This is all my HONEST OPINION. Thank you for reading.
I didn't do my homework before buying this gun, sure wish I had. It was purchased while on vacation. Mechanically it felt solid, looked good, and had the specs I was looking for. Scope is not mounted, so that is the first bit of fun. My rear ring had an extra thick pad which caused the scope to tilt down in the front and nearly touch the barrel. I could see the barrel when looking through the scope. After correcting that I was able to somewhat sight in the scope, but could never get anything resembling a group. I was never able to hit anything consistently from ranges between 15 and 40 yards. My experience with this gun/rifle combination was very frustrating.
Just for fun I put a $8 4X scope on my old Crosman 760 and spent about 10 minutes dialing it in. It's very accurate with pellets at distances this GAMO could only dream of. I purchased another gun, an Air Venturi Avenger 1100 made by Mendoza, which hit targets consistently right out of the box. The first day I was successful on 90% of shots from 30 yards, compared to the GAMO at 10% from that range. Even on sale I would run from the Shadow Sport. I am leery of other GAMO rifles now as well.
This gun shot great for the first few months I owned it, then my groups opened up I noticed the scope was sliding off the back of the receiver, it had sheered the vertical lock screw in half. I sent it back to gamo and they fixed it up only cost me shipping. after I got it back I could not get it sighted in It was shooting all over the place. in frustation I took the BSA scope off and put on a cheep tasco reddot sight. It would group again with it on but the groups were still larger then they were when the gun was new. switiching from pointed pellets to flat pellets tightened the groups up again. If your rifle is not shooting well be suspicious of the scope and don't be afraid to try different pellets they are cheep and can make a big difference, just like real rifles and different brands of ammo find the one that works best.
